VW T2 Camper Retrim

This camper van was in excellent condition and had benefited from a full respray. However, the interior was showing its age and letting the rest of the vehicle down. The brief was to retrim the interior in leather to a bespoke design that was classic but with a contemporary twist.

Top quality Muirhead Blue leather was used throughout, with a 'chocolate block' style stitch pattern that featured around the interior. One particularly challenging area was the front bulkhead under the dashboard - never a pretty area on the VW T2 - and a leather 'blanket' was fabricated to flow around the complex shapes.

MX5 seats were fitted - far more comfortable than the original unsupportive seats - and these had heated seat elements installed. The heated seat upgrade is a welcome touch as the cabin heater in these vehicles isn't hugely effective.

The dashboard was retrimmed in leather where practical and for the vinyl mouldings that couldn't realistically be trimmed due to their shapes, e.g. around the instruments, these were sprayed in leather paint to exactly match the leather.

A wood rimmed steering wheel was installed to complement the reworked dashboard and we also took the opportunity to fit power steering which transformed the driving experience at low speed.

The final work we did was to replace the dirty and torn fabric of the pop top, with a new striped material that reflected the colour scheme and character of the rest of this camper van.
