Electric Power Steering Conversion
Fitting an electric power steering conversion kit to a classic Morgan is the ideal solution to heavy steering at slow speeds and is completely hidden under the dashboard. The standard steering rack or box, ratio and under bonnet appearance remain the same.
The picture shows the power steering kit next to a standard Morgan steering column. This actual kit was for a Morgan Plus 4, but there is very little visual difference between the kits for different ages and models of classic Morgan.
The power steering unit measures the amount of load the steering is under and adjusts the assistance accordingly. So at slow speed when the steering is naturally heavy, maximum assistance will be given, but as a car's speed increases, so the weight of the steering will decrease and the amount of power assistance progressively decreases. This system helps maintain the correct amount of 'feel' within the steering when travelling at normal road speeds.
There is a built in 'fail safe' to return the steering back to the normal unassisted setting in the unlikely event the power steering stops working.
Customers that have had the system fitted, think it is worth every penny!
The price for us to supply and fit the power steering kit is typically £3,100 (although please note, it can vary slightly by model).
